Our Government's Most Impactful Investments

With the support of Canadians, our Liberal government has managed to accomplish so much over the past four years. Almost every day, I have the opportunity to see how things like the Canada Child Benefit, Middle Class Tax Cut, and investments in transit and housing have made life better for families in Burnaby and North Vancouver. This report summarizes a significant number of these investments.

Keeping our Communities Moving with Better Public Transit

We’re investing $28.7 billion in public transit to expand bus service, light rail transit, and subway lines in communities across Canada. Alleviating traffic congestion and developing greener transportation infrastructure benefits our economy and our environment. We are adding more than 3,000 new buses, creating 87,000 additional seats across the country. We’re also upgrading nearly 15,000 bus stops and shelters, as well as making improvements to accessibility, connections, and overall experience with upgrades to more than 200 transit stations. On top of this, here in the Lower Mainland, we’re expanding SeaBus, SkyTrain, and Canada Line Service, and are investing in the construction of the Broadway SkyTrain Extension, Surrey LRT, and Pattullo Bridge replacement.

Cut Small Business Taxes

We’ve given small businesses an opportunity to grow and succeed by lowering the small business tax from 11% to 9%. This is now resulting in up to $7,500 in savings per year for businesses in Burnaby and North Vancouver, and it means that small business owners will have more capital to invest in the continued growth and success of their businesses.

Modernized Canada’s Fisheries Act

We introduced new safeguards to protect our fish and their habitat. Strong, vibrant fish habitats are vital to the long-term health of our province, and our communities. The changes to the Fisheries Act will complement the amazing work that is being done on the ground by the many dedicated conservation groups and individuals in our community, like the Stoney Creek Environmental Committee and the Seymour Salmonid Society.

#30: Supporting our Post-Secondary Institutions

To modernize Canadian universities, colleges, and polytechnics, such as SFU, BCIT, and Capilano University, we’re investing $2 billion in state-of-the-art learning facilities for students through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.
