About Terry

In 2013, my wife, Ravi, and I discussed getting into federal politics. We were married on the August long weekend, and we were thinking about the future we wanted to see for our family and our country.

Growing up, Dad was a janitor, and Mom raised three kids. We didn’t have much, so we delivered papers, shovelled snow and collected bottles to save money. At 13, my parents divorced, and my brother Doug and I moved out. I worked on a farm, and Doug moved in with foster parents.

Ravi and I both believed in hard work and education, and we were the first in our families to get our degrees. This was possible because we live in a country that rewards hard work and provides everyone with a real and fair chance at success. Ravi came from a family that immigrated to Canada and had a similar experience.

As we were getting started, we knew we had a lot of hard work in front of us. We spent the next two years working to build trust with our neighbours. We knocked on thousands of doors and used our community’s feedback to shape a platform that would see a majority government elected in 2015. Since then, I’ve focused on delivering on my promise to be one of the hardest working MPs in the country. Most people don’t interact with an MP regularly, but when they do, it’s usually for very important reasons, and it’s crucial that our representative stands up to serve dutifully with purpose and with passion.

As the pandemic began, we acted quickly to address the evolving crisis. I flew home from Parliament in March, and our team began rapidly coordinating to bring Canadians home safely from cruise ships, school trips, honeymoons, and other interrupted work and travel abroad. Simultaneously we worked to address the concerns we were receiving on an hourly basis. We closed the border and implemented more than 75 unique programs like the CERB, CEWS, and the CEBA, which have served as lifelines for Canadians since the pandemic began.

We implemented a comprehensive vaccination strategy and signed contracts with seven providers, guaranteeing access to vaccines for all Canadians. Because of our plan, by the time you read this letter, Canada will have the highest vaccination rate in the world. This is a tremendous accomplishment that demonstrates what Canadians can accomplish when we work together.

Despite our focus on the pandemic, we have continued to deliver for Canadians with a unique opportunity to build back stronger than before. We introduced a stimulus budget in 2021 with a five-year plan to reduce the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio every year starting in 2022. This approach allows us to build a country where everyone can succeed while tackling big issues like climate change, affordability and reconciliation. It enables us to deliver life-changing programs like the recently announced early learning and childcare program, which will cut childcare costs in half for the average family by the end of next year.

Since I became your Member of Parliament, I haven’t taken a single day for granted. Our hard work has paid off, and the results we have achieved were acknowledged when I was voted Parliamentarian of the Year by MPs from all political parties. Because of our continued dedication to helping our constituents, our MP office has held B.C.’s top customer service rating for the last four years straight. While I can’t include everything in this letter, I’ve drafted more than 100 pages of updates to show how these policies have benefited our community. Please visit TerryBeechMP.ca/reports for the whole story.

I look forward to representing our community in the years to come. Please enjoy the rest of your summer safely. I will be knocking on your door to ask your advice on the future you want for your family and our community very soon.

In your service always,

Terry, Ravi, Nova, and Solar
