Your Voice Matters: Deep Cove Marine Vessels Town Hall
In recent months, I’ve been hearing more and more from members of the Deep Cove community about abandoned and dilapidated vessels. In January, we held a town hall meeting to openly discuss your concerns, and to work together to find solutions. Joined by officials from Transport Canada and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, we talked about the environmental impact of these hazardous vessels, along with their governance and jurisdictional challenges. We also previewed Bill C-64, which is legislation that will give Transport Canada and the Port the tools they need in order to address these concerns with new regulations and authorizations.
Thank you to all those who attended – nearly 100 people joined us to engage in this meaningful discussion. For those who weren’t able to make it, you can find the meeting minutes posted here. A copy of the meeting minutes was also sent to our Indigenous, federal and municipal partners so we can continue working together on these important issues.
If you have any questions about the town hall, Bill C-64, or additional ideas, please get in touch.
